And so it was so tired looking. I didn't know if it was gonna come back to life, and I didn't know if I had to replace it. I needed to clean it to see if I could clean it, I needed to start figuring out which one I wanted to make, you know, fit the holes and all that stuff and get replaced. So that was it. I was really cleaning it to see fault that I'd have. Bald. came back and she's beautiful and she looks, uh, not as good as new, but um, it's fine. And I love the fact where you stuff it, but you see the bras through and. see this common theme of, you see her wrinkles, right? You see her use, you see the, the flaws

So how, how do you freshen up that space for entertaining that's not gonna break the bank, but makes it look light and airy.

Well, when we talk about effortless decorating, that's me because, uh, for this, because I don't do shit. So for us, when we worked in the backyard, like we did a lot of investment in like plants and, and, and things like that. So we'll do our, our, our pots with flowers and stuff, but we have a beautiful,, old teak table, so it feels like you're in the middle of Hamptons, um, back there. So I don't do table skirts or anything like that. Um, but what I will do is I always like to have. A set of like melamine dishes, something that I know that my guests can use, that they're not gonna be worried about breaking. Not that our, our plates are anything fancy by any means. They're not. They're, they're from Target. Um, and we bought them when we did the kitchen in like 2017. Um, but they always, people feel uncomfortable. So I always like to have things there that people can use that they don't feel like they're gonna shatter or break.

Well, you know, I think when, when it comes to entertaining in the summer, there's two, there's two versions of entertaining, right? There's the actual having an event or like having a, a planned something, which sounds like what you're gonna have like in a couple weeks between, and then there's like the unexpected, like people pop over. So I have like one set. Yeah, I always have tools or things I try to do for like the last minute pop-ins. And then may I do, like if we're, if we're, if we are having a planned something, like I'll take our lanterns outside and I'll take like those kinds of things, make it feel a little more homey out there. Um, but I do like the easy things like I'll take out lanterns and, uh, candlesticks and, and easy things like that just because, uh, well when I'm lazy. Um, but two, because we. I like for it to be all the plants and plantings outside. I don't do too much to fluff it up. But you know, you, you mentioned cushions. The, for some reason pillows outside are like my little like, um. My little se not secret obsession, but it's like they make me giddy. I don't know why. It's the most random thing, but I love getting new pillows for outside and maybe it's'cause I buy cheap ones'cause I know they're just gonna be destroyed

So you all are fortunate in the, in the sense that you all have porches. We don't have a porch. Everything we have is fully exposed, like there's no cover. So it's like the gates of hell. I thought, oh, that would be good, but it was a certain size and I don't think it fit. Um, but the other thing is that. Uh, that little, that's like on a deck. We, we raise it up, we put treks for the floor, um, but surrounded on three sides by horn beams, uh, which create like a very private, well area, like a shield. Yeah. And so I don't want, I don't wanna take away from those, so I don't, I. We just wait to go out. Truthfully, most of the area that we usually, unfortunately just'cause it does get so damn hot and humid. And listen, I am not a skinny person. I'm chunky monkey. And um, although I have, I have lost some weight and I am cold all the time now. Um, but it's still hot outside and I don't like humidity. Ooh. It's just awful. Um, and so like if it, if it's really nice out and it's in the evening, we'll eat dinner out in front of, uh, in our little outdoor. In eating area, but I mean, we hardly ever go outside when we don't have company'cause it's just too damn hot.

memory probably will never be forgotten because that was extra effort. so. It goes back to living in your house and how you live in it. Just keep re-imagining. It's the same thing living at your house on the outside. And no, I'm not gonna move furniture every single time. But if you have the opportunity and you have the space, not everybody does, right? But if you have the opportunity, look at those. Um. Op, uh, options to, to, to things up a little bit. On the 4th of July, a, an oak tree that's in our side yard. And I

Well, two years ago it had gotten big enough that we were able to sit under there and again, table and chairs and all the stuff, and have a picnic under that tree. And um, that was joy. Right.

And it, it does make it feel like people, it's the, it's that communal time versus. Come to my home for this event. I guess we'll say it that way. And I much prefer those because that, I mean, I think most of the time you have the people at the home, at your home that you care about the most. So I always make sure I have firewood always, just because if we could decide to go out and have, enjoy the fire pit, um. And then w I'm always, when we have a, we have our, an alcohol selection, I guess, down in our, in our bar, but I always have, um, I guess they're like the, like gallon jugs, or, no, they're half gallons, I guess of like, we're gonna say like, um, some kind of lemonade. Um, you know, we can get like strawberry lemonade or regular lemonade or watermelon or like what that, and because a lot of those are easy just to mix with like a little bit of bourbon. And then you've got like a little bourbon lemonade and they're delicious. So I always have those in case somebody stops by'cause they're just something really easy and they're kind of fresh and light. Um, just to have, just to go out. And I, going back to the fire pit, I always have the little, um, packets of, um. They're little like I don't know what they are and they're probably horrible for the environment. God help me. Um, but they're little packets of like chemicals or colors or something and you throw it in the fire and then it turns your fire into like multicolored little things. I dunno. It's just fun, you know? It's just so it Oh yeah. And it, we had never heard of it. One of our, uh, a mother of our fr one of our friends got a son when we first got the fire pit. Um, and you have to do it after. Well, okay, so this is the other thing. We always have stuff to make s'mores always. Um,
