S2:E12 How To Decorate For Summer!

Jeremy Rice Season 2 Episode 12

We like to think that we are seasonal decorating gurus around here, but I gotta tell you, summer, it can even challenge the three of us. And let's be honest, it's because spring is so easy, right? You've got bunnies, you've got pastel eggs, you've got flowers, throw some of them out, BAM, you are ready for Spring!   In fall, you get some foliage, some pumpkins, BAM. Instant autumn joy!  BUT summer, well, it's the season that just shows up in flip flops, and just expects you to go with the vibe. So today we're going to talk about how to handle the season that can be a little bit more about sunburns and maybe a glass of lemonade and aid, and how to create a home with an effortless summer look, without it looking like you raided a luau.

So grab your sandals and let's get to it.

We like to think that we are seasonal decorating gurus around here, but I gotta tell you, summer, it can even challenge the three of us. And let's be honest, it's because spring is so easy, right? You've got bunnies, you've got pastel eggs, you've flowers, throw some of them out, bam, you are ready In fall, of course, very easy. Some foliage, some pumpkins, bam. Instant autumn joy, but summer, well, it's the season that just shows up in flip flops and no clear idea what to do and just expects you to go with the vibe. So today we're going to talk about how to handle the season that can be a little bit more about sunburns and maybe a glass of lemonade and aid, and how to create a home with an effortless summer look without it looking like you rated a luau. So grab your sandals and let's get to it. Well, this morning it is just the two of us and Stuart is out of town working on a project, but allegedly he might join us. So we'll see if he joins in with us today. But the truth is we can hold down the fort.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Yeah, we're fine. We're fine. We're fine.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

so today we are discussing something that, when you had a floral class a couple weeks ago, you asked them what they wanted to learn about and one of the things that they mentioned, which I thought was spot on,'cause we've heard this from so many people, is how do we decorate this transition period between. Spring, right?

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

I mean, technically the next thing is fall. I mean, we have summer, right? But summer's like a one of those hard seasons to decorate for. Like you can't do bunnies. It's way too early for pumpkins. You can't put out too, I mean, if you love Halloween, I guess you can put a witch out. I don't know.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Uh, do what? Do what you want. Yeah.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

what you want. um. it's helping figure out how do we bridge the gap between spring and when you feel comfortable bringing out the fall, things later on, and what can you do aside from of July, Memorial Day, Americana, red, white, and blue stuff,

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Right, right.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Yeah. So that's the idea of what we're talking about today.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Well, part of it is, I feel like it, and this sounds crazy and not everybody can do it, and everybody's not everybody's anal and crazy as I am, but I feel like for each season, if you get ready for it and you go shopping in your own house first, right? It

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

forces you to have your house ready if somebody knocks on your front door and you know, people don't do that anymore, but the whole Eastern Kentucky.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

welcome in my house.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Right.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

up.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Well, my parents would do that, and it's a very, was was a very Eastern Kentucky thing when I grew up as a small lad that, uh, you could just go to somebody's house, pull up and they'd welcome you, and you sit on your front porch and you'd have, uh, you know, so very southern, but you have sweet tea, or you go and have some pinto beans in somebody's kitchen and they're just ready for you. Right. So I always feel like, um. Your house needs

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

between my family and your family. My mom would've turned the lights off and everybody head in the house. Nobody act like you're home.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Seriously. Wow.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

bit. My mom.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Yeah. Yeah. Well I, so for me then, that means the house is always gonna be ready, which always means not on guard, but you just don't lay around and slip around and wait till last minute to clean the house.'cause you got company coming every 10 minutes. The house just needs to be. Pretty and ready all the time. So really all that does is it makes you, do something every day, right? Just do a little something every single day. So the point of this one for me is when we change out for seasons, then that makes us do a little bit of a slight deep clean.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

uh, that we move things around and yeah, I add new stuff and I get some new stuff from the store, or mostly the store. I can't even say I buy anything else from anywhere else anymore'cause Right. Hey, don't go anywhere. I don't wanna go anywhere. I'm always here. Right? And that's not a bad dig, that's a blessing. But, uh, so if I add anything, which still is not a lot at this point, it will come from here., So that's one of the things is, is to use this opportunity to, clean house a little bit deep, clean, just a little bit, getting the house ready. Um, like for example, last weekend, Chloe,, my daughter was, in town. She lives, about an hour and a half away from us, but she was helping her boyfriends, Brother move outta his dorm room. And I had put on a roast that morning and I didn't even know that they, they were gonna be in town or anything, but I was just gonna have that roast and uh,'cause I've is first, if you've heard of Mississippi pot roast, Lord have mercy. How good is it? Right. If not, we'll put the recipe up. Right. Jeremy,

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

I, because

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

you've said to me.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

have talked about this for years.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

is so good and so easy and so nothing to this. And shout out to Kate, her last name ever to say that, uh, one of her employees that works here every third Saturday of the month, she's, she, she thought it was a secret family recipe of her husband's. And I just Googled and I was like, yeah, no, there's no secret to this recipe. Uh, but anyway, I still dunno if she knows that. So she's listening. Sorry, Kate. Um, anyway, very good recipe. So threw it in the pot. And, then I thought, oh, she's in town so I, you know, if you're moving a dorm or furniture and stuff. And I thought, well, maybe they'll need to eat. Hey, do you and Lucas wanna come to eat? And she said, absolutely, yes. Hmm. Thank you Daddy. I love you roast. And uh, I. Probably about less than an hour. Uh, talked to her and she said, Hey, do you mind if, Logan, which is her boyfriend's brother and his mom, her tobe mother-in-law comes over for dinner also? And I was like, absolutely. Because the house was ready. There's no run around screaming, hollering first. My personality's laid back enough, even if it wasn't, it's like I don't, like, I don't care if it's not ready, but we threw in a few little extra biscuits and a little bit more corn and a little open, a can of pea and some butter, and we were ready to go and had the best evening. Right? But it also is about being at ease with entertaining and being,. Ready for people to walk in the door. This is what I'm saying is, and it's, it's, if you're comfortable, I keep coming back. If you're comfortable in your own skin, you're comfortable in your own house, you're like, come on in. Right. If it's got some, it's got something on the kitchen island can only throw it away or I'm perfectly fine. I do. I pull the jewelry of childs and it's like, if it ain't ready and it's not fixed and it's not cooked yet, hey, put the apron on. Come over here and help me. Right, and people love that. You know that, right? People don't have to be entertained 24 things like if they wanna be part of something. So the whole gist of that is, um. What I've did, uh, in the last couple weeks is we have, um, you know, put the money rabbits away. Got'em all. There's probably, oh, I know there is. We, I saw it last night. We have a kitchen, hood over our stove that looks like a mantle, right? And it's pretty big. And there's this sign that's like a cutout letters. They don't judge me'cause they're cute. And it says, happy Easter has this happy Easter on it. And I looked up there last night, I was like. There she is. She's still up there.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Well, Easter, Easter was just a couple weeks

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

know, I know. But I thought I got everything. It's like I have found the random Santa in the formal living room with a bookcase in uh, uh, February. He's just hanging out. He is like, Hey.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

he's still around. He may be, uh, resting, but he can, he's still around. Well, we have still yet have yet to, uh, lift the bunnies. I don't really put anything out that's quote unquote. bunny figures is about as Easter I'm gonna get, so no Easter signs, anything like

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Right.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

out

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

No pink glitter sign. It says Happy Easter. Huh?

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

and no pink, no pink litter for sure. Uh,

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

is pink glitter.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

but next, uh, one of our. Come upcoming live sales. We're planning on coming over to the house and changing it from spring to summer. So that's, I've just purposefully left,

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

out, so you know, they'll be there. So this morning as I was grabbing my, protein shake, I looked down and I was like, oh yeah, there's those bunnies. Yeah, they'll be gone saying, they'll be gone. Saying, for me, I think the best way to approach trying to get ready for the summer is. You know, kind of like how we approach spring as far as like looking out and then bringing that in. But I do mine in a much more edited way. So, you know, spring we have all the colors, right? All the everything's blooming. And I know that that continues through summer. I know that there's still flowers. I know there's rose bushes, that blue. I know there's all those, you know, other things that, that come up that have lots of color. But for me, when I bring it inside, it's, I just wanna go green and I'll do white. Right?

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

one of my always go-tos is I love ferns. Uh, well, I will add me a fern anywhere and everywhere and on the shelves and the fern frons. And it just helps me feel like I've got a little bit of the outside in. I love you just listen. You get, you get you nice little collection of ferns and you can set them little bitches around and it makes it feel like, you know, it's much more, um, summary to me. I feel like,

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Yeah, it, it brings life into the house.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

though they're fo'cause listen, I only have one house plant that I've been able to keep alive for multiple years and she's, she's struggling. I don't, I I, and this is sad. I, and listen, if y'all, if you're plant lovers, and you don't judge me when I tell you this, but I have this beautiful little pot that she's in and I love the pot and I, I need to really re-pot her to put her in something else. And I don't wanna put another pot where it goes. So I'm just forcing her to stay the same size. I don't know. Is that bad?

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Uh, well a little, yeah. Yeah. It's like, it's like shoving your children's feet in the shoes that don't quite fit. I don't know if I would recommend that. Let her, let her spread her toes out.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Oh, well. Okay. I'll have to get another one. She'll die for shit now, but

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

You know, there's a great little store called House by JSD that sells great little pots. I bet you can get one in the back. X.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

the thing is, it's not, it's not, it's not the fact that, and I'll show it next week in our life sale, but it's not the fact that I can't find another pot. It's the, I love the pot it's in and I don't wanna replace it, so I'll

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

We'll buy another baby, buy another there. That's just an opportunity. Everything's an opportunity.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Well, so I always look to ferns'cause I always will kill everything. So I will always do faux ferns. And I like all ferns. I don't think you can ever go wrong with having too many, unless you start turning and you look like you're in a plant

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Now let me tell you something or ask you something or anything. Have you ever tried to grow a real maiden hair fern?

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

'cause I know they're bitches.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Okay. I, they look like they're delicate and difficult, so, you know, we have, I dunno if we have'em right now. Um, sold, maiden hair Ferns, right? Fo made hair fern.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

that we've ever gotten in, I go, eh, right. Because a real maiden hair fern has such a particular look to it, and I just don't, yeah. I just don't feel like that they've got the artificial ones right yet. So.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

off a

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Color it off, textures off. And so I just won't, I just won't buy it. Right. I, people come in and I'll use'em, but it's not my first choice. And they'll like, yeah, I'm good with that. I'm like, I'm glad you are. I don't like it. Uh, but I know, so I,

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

just maiden hairs, not the other

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

yeah. No, no. You don't put other words in my mouth. People. I just said maiden hairs. All I said, that's all I said.'cause we have great other ones, so no. Throwing the Chinese plastic under the bus. I'm just not, I just don't like that one. Uh, but then the same instance, like, I guess I'm never gonna have one because if, like you said, they're persnickety and difficult, I'm just not gonna deal with it. So let's go back to you, you know, um, about our, our cloches, the bell jars, I.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

I have a pretty good little collection over the last 30 years of probably I even sold some back to other people and paired'em down. And so I probably have sticks. Well, I finished my basement a couple years ago, uh, for my parents to live in partially, and, that meant I had to give up a lot of storage and therefore a lot of. Broken things from the store that I've been hoarding from 12 years I never used. And uh, I don't, it was just junk. So it took a long time to edit through all that stuff. And, but there's still junk down there. But one of the things that's not junk is my collection of bell jars that I've ended up. I. Wanting to keep five or six of'em. I still have that many after having 8, 9, 10, right? And so I brought them up, uh, I use'em at Christmas time and put uh, winter things in them and I create little, if anybody doesn't know what a cloche or bell jar is, look it up and how to use them. But they're a great tool to decorate with. So, you know, I put Santa Clauses in and were actually snowmen for us and we do a winter scene. So I put them up clean and I got got'em back out and I put bunny rabbits in them and created little moments out of them. Well, I was looking at them and I really, really don't have room to put'em in the basement because now we're looking at tweaking something else and I was like, if they go down there, they're gonna get moved and broken. I just need to leave them here. So they've been sitting naked empty for like, there's three of'em upstairs right now for two or three weeks. And I'm like, well, what am I gonna do with these things? And I don't, I didn't wanna go. Buy more tchotchkes and things to put under there and nothing seems appropriate. It's like the whole thing, what you're talking about. Well, what do you put under, under? It's easy to put something there in the fall. You put pumpkins in the clothes, right?

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

put Santa or snowman or something like that for Christmas. Uh, and I can even leave the snowman out for winter, right? Then I transfer over to bunny rabbits, got my clothes figured out. Then they sat there for three weeks, two weeks, three weeks for two or free, right? And I do this for a living. I go, I don't know what to put under these. And it just hit me. They're meant to grow plants, right? There are many geranium that are

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Well, sun, it's like sun houses

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

sun, right? I can't say that.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Sun. Sun. What are those called?

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

I don't know, greenhouse, they, they're like a little mini greenhouse because you, you'll use, they used to, you know, friend, uh, the French, uh, cliche clo,

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

they would put'em in your garden and protect delicate plants, right? And so it, it creates a little greenhouse, like you say. And I thought, oh, okay, then I'm gonna use them for what they really were meant to be, not my, uh, crap. I stick under them. So, uh, we have a Phil Philodendron. Is that again the correct word? That's a little heart shape. So mom had this plant at her. They had a second little house near me and they lived there, just partial. Uh, and for about nine years she tried to kill that. Fill the dinner. It barely, it had like six inches of soil in there and it was, you know, the dirt where it gets kind of white on top of it because it was crusted over and there's not enough water. So I would, it literally had three little sprinkles on it, and it's all wilted. But I would go check on the house, make sure the water's not leaking and whatever. And I would give that plant some water. And just enough to keep it alive for 7, 8, 9 years. So she's moving and she's getting ready to throw that plant away. And I'm like, oh, oh God, no. I've kept that thing alive for nine years and it's a living, breathing plant. You're like, like, it's like you throw that away. You're like, throwing part of me away. You're killing me. Right. It's like the death plant you get from the funeral. You can't throw it away.'cause it's,

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

peace lilies.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

you know, these lilies, you can't throw'em out. And, um. So I took it and then I watered it and I gave it some dirt and now it's the size of a small country. True story. It's massive. It is massive. And Mama said before, she said, where do you get that pretty, uh, plant from? I said, well, I said, when you try to kill for 10 years, there you go. Right? Uh, what'd you do to it? Water, dirt. That's it. Literally, I don't think it's ever had a drop of miracle's, just water and dirt. Long story is I cut some of the tendrils off, put them in these little willow, you know, our candles that we sell that, uh, in the little, so I'm, again, hoarder and I say those. I think they're pretty. And if you go cut flowers from them. So these little willow, probably five inch little things. Put some water in them, put'em inside the clo cliches with little pieces of my philodendron and they're sitting there and I, uh, love it. See, look at that song pad my own little garden.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Well, oddly enough, I also have cloches in my living room that it are often empty because I'm like, what do I put it in the summer? So now I'm like,

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

CB.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

little

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Yeah, yeah, yeah,

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

life, and they

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

yeah, yeah. And it's, uh, we sell succulents, so if you wanna do artificial succulents in it, I really, uh, it sounds like I don't love what we sell, but because I've have, I just think what we sell is good. But I just think you have to use it in very edited ways. And not every surface needs a fo flower arrangement, or every surface needs a fake, plant. Right? You can use them, but use them in very. Purposeful ways and um, I think you almost disagree'cause you don't, you don't grow very much real stuff, do you?

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

No, I mean outside, you

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

No, that's what I mean inside that You just don't

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

No,

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

No,

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

I've got one.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

that's one. That's one. Okay. Hear it again.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

one.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

and it's barely alive.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Not she, well, she holding on.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Okay.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

looks okay, but I guess

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Yeah.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

They are good people. Anyway, so I, I figured out what to do with my cliches, right?

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Yeah.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

And so I have been moving my blue and white porcelain around. Cleaning it, getting the dust off. Uh, I have these absolute massive blue and white pots that sit on our kitchen island, and I put real sticks in them and our beautiful magnolia stems. These really big, long ones that we. Found, I think last year I got three of those in it and I had, a few of our white dogwood artificial branches in there. And it looks like I just went and cut all this from my yard and had that in that great big pot. One of'em had something in it and the other one doesn't, it has a lid on it. And that's been sitting on the kitchen island. But, actually I have to tell the real story. So it's been sitting there and I love it and it's been, that pot's been sitting there since fall and I keep. Putting just like what we've tow to. I put um, the magnolia's there. The sticks are there, but I've added fall flowers to it. Then I left it and I added Christmas greenery to it.'cause I like the house Christmas time. If all in Christmas, fuller and lusher and more over the top and you like, you have to look like through jungle fever to see the other side of the kitchen island, it's so full and I love it. I love it. I paired it down, emptied it out a little looser, a little more sparse for spring, more twiggy looking. So I have a client that I convinced her when we did this, a major, remodel like every room, but with new kitchen in a massive kitchen island in just beautiful. But she lives out on a farm, and we did a picture window that is the size of two houses because she looks out her kitchen sink and. It is barns and horses and nothing like you can, I mean, it really frames the beauty of living in the bluegrass truthfully, right? And so we were talking about what to put over the kitchen island, what kind of light fixtures. And even though it's a big kitchen, I kept saying nothing, right? I didn't wanna swat away. I didn't want to feel like I needed to look through anything. And this kitchen island is there in blank. Now I was like, oh, but it needs a little something. So I took my huge blue white jars there.'cause they're huge. I keep saying they're 30 inches tall or something like that. They're just massive. So I took the jars over there and tried'em. She said, I absolutely love'em, but I want'em a little smaller, real big. And I was like, okay, but right. But it, and I get it, I get it, you know? Um, but it helped her to understand it. So when I took him back to my house, I was like, I don't want'em on the kitchen island anymore. Right. I, I, it feels heavy. It feels too much. I don't want it in the kitchen table. So I put them out on my front porch. You know, with the urns and the ferns, and I just, I look at'em and go, oh, and people say, well, you can't put porcelain on your front porch. Well, yeah, you can. Yeah. Because people don't know this. Like, do you know, do you know what a, um, a garden stool is? Yeah, you do, right? So if people don't No, no, you do. I, I should say listen to audience maybe. And then they're also gonna laugh at me. Of course, they don't want the garden stool us, so we sell garden stools. And so, um, I had ordered in years ago. Uh, blue and white garden stools and those set between the rocking chairs on the front porch year round. I don't even bring'em in for Christmas or winter or anything. They just stay there year round. So now drive up to the pretty house and imagine these 30 inch blue and white ginger jars. Nestle do are the ferns with pots in'em that have blues and purple flowers in them, and blue and purple pillows, which sounds a weird combination, but I love it. And blue, blue and white. Um, uh, garden stools. So also it goes back to the thing we've said before is always pay attention to your front door, right? Clean your front door. People don't go through the front door. I put a lot of effort, truthfully, if I say it. I do it and believe it. I put a lot of effort into making that front door beautiful. When you drive up, you have one opportunity to say you've arrived somewhere. Right? So basically all that is about moving stuff around, shopping your own house, buy what you love from us and then, but you get to move it around and change it and put it in different places and be ready for your company. That's part of my change up for the seasons is getting ready. Uh, um, for people to come and you start moving things around. So that's long story. Yes. That's kind of my approach.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

You know, oddly enough, uh, the, one of the only thing, I'm not a big cleaner. I mean, my husband is, thank God, but, I. The one thing that I look forward to every year is when it gets to spring, and then I know I'm gonna clean all the windows in the

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

I just, oh God. It makes me so excited and I do it. He did. He doesn't even do it. I'll do every one in the

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Are yours. It's the old house is the individual panes individual glass. Or is it like

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

We replaced our windows,, a year ago or whatever, but so they do have the, uh, the

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

millions? Mm-hmm. See, ours is not an old house. It's less than 20 years old, but I insisted on putting Windows uhhuh with true divided lights. So every one of those 1 billion windows is every one of those little squares. That's me cleaning every square. I had a quote for somebody to come and clean the windows once. It's like a thousand dollars.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Oh, I don't even think that's a bad knowing how many windows you have.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

I was like, I can't spend a thousand dollars cleaning windows. It's a truth.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

one of the ladies of the store, she goes, this is what I treat myself to every year, is I get the window windows cleaned. And I was like, well, how much does it cost to clean the windows? And then she, uh, she gave me whatever it was, and I was like, holy sh. I was like, you pay someone to come do that? And all they do is they water it down with a water hose and all that bull. was like, oh, but it just looks so nice. I'm like, well, I'll just clean mine with some Windex. My little glass cleaner. All right, so we got it all clean.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Got it all clean.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

We got it all clean. And I need to paint my front door so I'm not with the trim. I gotta touch it at, um,

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

paint it the color?

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

no, I mean, my trim's all white, so I got, I got a. really need to get that done. It's been a few years. Um, but I love, so, okay, so you're talking about putting your uh, blue and white outside. Another thing, I think that's really easy for people to use to decorate with somewhere, and this is kind of, you know, it, this is not rock rocket science people, but it's lanterns.'cause people

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

you know, just having the little candlelight and it's clear, you know, clear glass and all that. I think that's a great go-to, to add some summer, uh, love into the house too. So I could also see that

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. It's a detail. Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

detailed.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Um, and then for more of the green,'cause again, I've always said, I already said I love the green. You know, I've got your, you got your ferns. Any kinda leafy foliage. We have some budding branches. I love, I think I'm using the house next week when we do our live sale. Um, but it's just something Branchy and I'm with you. I don't want anything real heavy. I

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

it like, you know,

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Yeah. I feel like swatting away, lighting it up, edit out, take away the heavy wool rugs, put down thesal rug, that very southern. I don't do that, but I love that idea what you do. You know what I'm talking about when I say that.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

not a clue.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

If I'm wrong, I don't care. That's getting ready to say, listen, audience, let us know. I don't care. That's the best answer for this show today. Right. Oh my god, I love me more than life. Uh, so, so in the south, so I believe and been told and read to myself that I'm making up maybe, is that you have a sisal rug and then you have a, you see a layered with a wool rug on top of that in the south. They pull that wool rug up in the summer to take the warmth away and just leave the saal'cause it's cooler and lighter feeling. That's my story. So take away your wool rug and just leave the s uh, lay laying there. It does make sense, doesn't it? Really?

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

I don't know. If I get it down, it's, it's, we're lucky that it's down and we're lucky if it gets vacuumed, so we're just gonna leave it down. another texture. I think that's really good to feel. So let's say you have your, you have a blue and white foot bath there, right?

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Orchids. You can never go wrong with orchids.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Oh, Lord. Yeah. We have some good ones right now.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

We do have some beautiful ones, but those are great. They're airy, they have that white, you can use the moss. Moss is another thing I always feel feels very

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

and so if you're struggling with trying to figure out something maybe with a little height and you don't want it to feel very full, orchids are great option. But

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

want anything floral. For example, um, also moss balls. We have setum balls. Um, anything like that. I think that that's a really good

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

edgy that the color right, it

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

something's alive in the

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

thing without having to be floral. Yeah. I

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

True that.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

ball. I love balls too. Mm.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

I don't care for the, the moss balls, even though we saw a lot of them, but the sedum, orbs that we have, I love, I really do, really do love those.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

They're, they're beautiful.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Yeah.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

then, know, I don't turn my back entirely on flowers for the summer, right? Like, I always use a hydrangea. a hydrangea of any color, I think that you're, you're good. But now for me, I'm always gonna use white.'cause you know, I'm boring, but I love Mia y Hydrangea and you just ma those in anything and it doesn't have to feel fixed or fussy.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

if you, if you put that in something and then you feel like it does feel. Too cloud-Like let's say that that's, you need to split it up, put you a little lemon leaf in it. Uh, use the ma uh, hydrangea, use the magnolia leaf kind of tucked into it. It helps break it up a little bit. Um, but it doesn't feel fussy, I don't think. I think that that's a, that's always want what I want summer to feel like, I want it to feel like carefree.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

that, that's effortless, right? I don't want to,

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

It's, it's you Miss Daisy with your floppy hat and basket out with your clippers. Just cutting bundles of greens and hydrangeas and just

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Yes.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

them in there. Yeah,

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

fist and margaritas.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

go.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

You know, that is summer to me. I can't. Mm-hmm. Now I want a margarita.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

It's a little early. We're taping this at, uh, nine 30, so it's a little early for margaritas.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

not for me.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Well, okay, nevermind.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Glory B y'all. Glory B. Following along in the lines of what we talked about with the moss balls and the sedum. There's, we also have some short, and, you know, these, these, uh, little short green sedum berry stems, we have'em in green and purple.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

I, you ma those little

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

then it feels like it's a little interesting little texture.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

always where I'm looking how that. To add it in. Um, but I love those things and those are good to use year round, but you can keep those loose and airy again without making it really feel really full until it gets to the fall. And then I'm start shoving fall foliage and everything. And then there's pumpkins,

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

out everywhere.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Um, Joe made us, our floral designer, made, um, some flower instruments. This beautiful, glass, vase, I mean, probably. Eight inches tall and we have or had the, the pretty pink, bundles of tulips you found that we've been selling. And she put'em in acrylic water and she and I took one of those home and put it on our vanity in the bathroom. And I did that for, spring, right? And I looked at it the other day and I was like, should I edit that and change that? And I went, Nope.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

No,

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

stay there.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

I

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

All summer long till fall.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

sometimes you don't have to do anything, right? Truthfully, that one. But the basic thing is don't forget about your powder bathroom. You know, if anybody's gonna, they're gonna walk in your foyer. They might see your powder bathroom, they may not see your master, right? That'd be weird. But they, if they're there using the bathroom, you know they're gonna see your powder. So, always put some effort into it. So do, do one of our beautiful little flower arrangements. Do a, a pretty little fern that Jeremy loves. But add a little touch of greenery. Summer people will say, well do are not that, it's not summer, but it is fresh. It's idea of fresh flowers, have been delivered and these look incredibly real. They really do.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

this, I think I've said this on here a thousand times, but if it's a fresh flour that you can get at your Kroger or your local

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

during the, any time of the year, I think it's okay to use in your house. And so for us, I think we can get tulips at

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

No. Yeah.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

local. Like we can always get tulips and they're just, you know, you may not be able to every color. Uh, but yeah, no, those tulips to me, I think those are absolutely round. I.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Oh, you got, I got a cringe moment. So one of the girls showed me, she's had a customer, text her on the store cell. Um, a lady had a for wreath. What pre no. Do you know about this one?

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

No, I don't. But I can only imagine where this is going'cause I know how you are.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Okay. For those who don't know, for Forsythia Blooms in the spring, it has a very limited life and with our philosophy, if it's hanging on your front door. It looks as if you went and cut it and you made it into a basket or a wreath from the clippings in your lawn or in the property that you live on the compound. So if it's winter on the compound, like lobbyist, snob, I don't care, uh, that if you for foresee the aath hanging there in January. You weave should be snatched off your head, right? If you have it hanging there in July, you should be smacked. I'm just telling you how it goes, right? There's a window that's appropriate for these. So old girl sent a picture and wanted to have a bow made for it, and it be there in a bow that would last all summer long. You can see my face right now and I,

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

know,

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

yeah. Well that can happen. Okay.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

and that was the end of the story.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Yeah. Next.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

my favorite part.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Yeah.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

That was just the gift of it. I was waiting for you to

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

No, that just, no, I, I'll make your bow and I'll take your money. I'm happy with that, but I'm not perpetuating a mistake.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

We, I

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

So you don't, so you don't know. It's right. There's a, there's a, there's a trigger when it comes to the forcey eth, there's a trigger, right? I,

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

is the trigger is what I thought was gonna end up being the small, it's a way small world that it was gonna be, that, that

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

well, tell, tell the trigger, tell, so there's, I'm not mean. Yeah.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

on a, a well-known street where we live, and uh, it often leaves. Its for forsythia wreath on its door. Well, I think it's never come off of it. I think it's been on there for years On end note. Now, honest to God, the people that probably live there probably live in Florida full time now, and they don't even have. They're not even at the house. That's why it stays up there. But he just wants to drive the car off the street and drive through

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

That's every time.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

the

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Every time, every time I just drive my car just kind of veers over toward that.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

the ironic part is I also felt the same way about this before we had ever talked about it.'cause it's been there. It has been there. So, well, I just took Air Force Fifth wreath off our,

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Little late.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

uh,

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

You were a little late, brother.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

ago.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Little late.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

No, was like Easter was like two weeks ago.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

I'm tell you. Don't,

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

rule is I can leave it up until

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

well, that's not why roll. There's, well, you're wrong.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

it's my house. Get the hell over it.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

I'll run through your door too.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Well,

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Anyway, the, yeah, that's a no no. So be aware of the seasons people be aware there are seasons. Okay.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

And so hopefully today with our discussions on what to add to the house to

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Just

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

this

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

you've been kind of mean today about this. Yeah. You've been mean and judged.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

told, you told people that you didn't care if you were wrong.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

They know this. This is nothing new.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

This, oh Lord.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

hopefully out of our podcast today, you learned a few little extra textures that you can throw into the house and sprinkle around to help you get through this, uh, transition period between which it's funny to call summer transition period, but it's just what it is. It's just a lot of people just don't know what to use.

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

You know what, I'm, I'm gonna stop you there and say, what I'm walking away with is what, what to do. It really is almost what not to do.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

In that I feel like summer should be a little lighter and a little more edited and a little less and very, everything in this one should be a more purposeful and edited is really what this is about. And so if you do something, you buy something, you move something, you tweak something, be be the idea, be more likely to take away than to add.

jeremy-host828_1_05-08-2025_090425:

Hmm. Yeah. There you go. Life by Twain

dwayne_1_05-08-2025_090425:

There you go.
