Now listen, if you don't know what that is, no fears because by the end of this podcast, you're gonna know what it is, how we use it, and why. It's one of our favorite ways to add a ton of drama to a space that just makes you just wanna sit in there forever. Let's get to the podcast.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

On today's podcast, we are discussing this whole. I'm gonna call it a trendy name, but it's not a new thing, but it's this whole idea of color drenching. Now, for those who may not know what it is, would the one of you all like to explain what color drenching is,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

well the general idea is the definition is painting walls, ceiling trim, and even furniture the same hue. So basically the way I would explain it to a client is like, look, you see your living room, bedroom, whatever room we're dealing with, I wanna take this room and just dip it in a paint of can and pull it back out.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

And that's what we're doing, right? That's the easy way to do it. Now

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

semantics and we're gonna get into all of that, but that's basically you just drop your room in a paint can and okay, that's what it looks like. We're done.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Yeah, so the idea is to envelop yourselves into, this, a sea of color, right? Whatever color it may be. And it doesn't have to be like color or a dark color. It can, you can do it in a bright, neutral tone too, but it's basically paint everything being color washed.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Well, and I'm sure we have a lot of, um, listeners that have viewed, Bridgerton. Because

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

think so?

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

are looking at me. Yeah,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I'm thinking, I'm trying to think

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

because every

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

everyone

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

in every set this drenched in color,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

See, I, we haven't watched this

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

and what you see is the pattern of the furniture and their clothing, but the background is literally all the same color in every single room that they're in, which is what makes it so cinematic and beautiful. Hmm.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Well,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

are like a tele, you're, you're like a color person then.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Mm-hmm. I'm all about the colored drench.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

yeah, I, so it has been like on my social media, especially TikTok. has been, of course I got onto Colored Ridge TikTok evidently, but, it has appeared to be out there a lot. People are talking about this brand new, way to do it and that couldn't be further from the truth. It's been around forever. I mean, a lot of high-end or. You know, designers used to, you know, did a lot of toys where I remember seeing it.'cause I think those were the people that had the money to do it. And if they hated it, they'd just change it later. They didn't have to worry about, you know, if, if they didn't love it. but you would always see them in these beautiful design magazines and it was just so dramatic and, um, beautiful. But it's caught on and I wonder if it is because of what you're talking about, Stuart, with Bridgerton, if people have seen that and then now they've, they've, you know,

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Well, and, and that's the thing. It wasn't new just to bridgerton. That was period. That was the period, and that's what they did in that timeframe because

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

I have to admit I've been doing this.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

don't know.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

around

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

There you go. Well,

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

was having tea with them

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

In your

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

and, and writing to my loyal listeners. I've

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

I have to say I've been doing this for a while and it's not that I'm a genius. I didn't know what I was doing. And

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

the.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

It's like, I always like to room and it's, you know, not, not necessarily all the crown moldings and doors to be outlined and white. And I was like, it just one color. And so I've been doing it for a while and then somebody. Probably only three or four years ago, truthfully. So she's like,

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

like,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

can I color drench my room? And I'm like, okay, I don't know what that is. Tell me what that is. She told me and I went, oh, okay. I didn't know that's what that was. Yeah, we can do that. It's real good.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Well, you know, the first time I remember seeing it like in person Dwayne, was when you did it at, Deborah's old house at that, that big,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Yeah. Yeah.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

room. And I, it was so beautiful. The color was gorgeous and it was just a beautiful sitting room, and it was so moody and. Um, I remembered loving it then I didn't know what it was called then either. I just, you

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Yeah,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

was,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

I just learned, so yeah,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

this is fancy,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

you fancy.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

and now we've got a term for it. So, you know,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Yeah. Yeah. Well, when she said it, I was like, oh, finally, finally, I'm not crazy

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

you know what to

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

because, you know, honestly, Stuart may have noticed it, but I, I don't watch Bridgeton. I don't even know what it is, truthfully. Okay. So I can't learn from that. And I don't live in a period house like he does from his antebellum year. So I didn't have to do homework. And Stuart he's the only real official designer. He's has a a degree and he used to be real pernick about it. And it was J. Stuart, Hurt ASID Deser. I think he's moved on past that, but he, because he, he's confident in himself that he's, he's a deserter designer and, uh, but he's really, now Jeremy has a background for those who don't know in, it's called visual apparel. Visual merchandising.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

it's, you have a visual how to display. I think it's more complicated than that, and colors and things, uh, right. But you do, you, you have, I'm not dismissing you because you do have a background that's in that field of study.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

It's visual. Right. And Stuart has the, the, I'm gonna call it the real deal, right? He's, he can, he can, he can, he is the A SID, he's the real deal. Me, I'm just a old Joe Schmo with, uh, some accounting degree that can't balance the checkbook. So.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

with a paint book,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

There you go.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

decorator.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Scale a blonde decorator, right? So I say that in that each of you, probably more particular steward, you know, is educated in this and may have read about it and learned about I, I don't know, I'm, we can learn from this. I just, you know, anything that I do and learn is either through copying somebody, mistake or instinct. It's certainly not through book knowledge. I guess what my answer is, so I can't say to you. I knew anything about this and it was period something, because I don't have that background, so I stumble into stuff just because it's just dumb luck sometimes. I think

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Oh, that's how it works

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

that works sometimes, right? You think that's how we stumble each into each other?

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

uh, you know, if this wasn't fake by the devil, I don't know. What was I.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Um, oh, that's funny.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

think one of the reasons why people, love it and why designers go, can go to is one of it. It, well, it can, and I'm gonna put that in quotation marks can be an inexpensive way, to really add a ton of drama to a space without having to spend money on. you know, a wall covering or, you know, those kinds of things. But it helps to have trim, right? Like it helps to have those kinds of

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

the architectural interest to it, right? And when I

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

I think that's part of the success is really it has to have trim, truthfully.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

abso, yeah, I, that helps a ton, but it just creates a really, intimate, moody, just. Enveloping space, and depending on whether you

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

You go

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

dark or whether you go bright, it feels completely

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

different.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

it, it

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Just feels

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

like

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

like

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

wrapped that, that like that I think about Temple Grandin, I think of her just like being the big old hug, right? Like I just feel like I'm being hugged by the room one way or another.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

right.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

um, I think that's one of the reasons why people love it so much or we'll use

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Well, we've referenced Stuart's, uh, formal living room, uh, at his home, and it, it's, it's a large, really large scale room. How big is, how big is your formal living room at your house, Stuart? Roughly.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

24 by 26.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Yeah. That's huge. Right? And ceilings are how, how tall,

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

uh, 15 and a half.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

right? You, you understanding? Scale, that's a massive scale room. Right.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Hmm.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

And I point that out is because he color drenched that room and it is a more intense color. Right? But it's not dark, but it is intense color. But we did, a photo shoot at his house a few weeks ago and we sat down there waiting for everything to get prepared. And let me tell you that room. You know, it felt grand, right? But it didn't feel, cavernous. It, it felt warm and cozy inviting and it lent itself to ease of sitting there and having a beautiful conversation. And first I'll, I. Pivot to that is giving credit to Stuart, that he was able to, curate things in this room that told stories and gave seating that was comfortable. But part of the success was the color drenching in that room that made it feel moody and intimate. And where if it were not addressed that way, I don't know that it would've. Been a room that you want to necessarily hang out in. So you created a beautiful room by color, trenching. And even truthfully, the tone of color is part of its success once it's said and done. Yeah.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Well,

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

So.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

what color drenching or wrapping everything in one color it can do. For example, with Stuart's room, it's a huge room, but it then also helps feel like it shrinks down a little bit. It doesn't feel like it's super

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Hmm.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

It can also do the complete opposite thing. So if you're in a really small room, for example, it doesn't make it feel small. It does make it feel smaller to me.'cause I think you're just still enveloped in that color, right? Like

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

a powder room, for example. Um. It doesn't make it, I don't think it feel, feels like it shrinks it in, it just makes it feel like it's hugging. That's the only way I know how to explain that. It just feel like it's

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

so a lot of the places where you will see this, I mean, are, they're the really common spaces like powder rooms, home offices.'cause you can have a lot of fun with that and bedrooms.'cause everybody loves a booty bedroom.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

So when he references moody, typically I think of a darker color, right? Typically Right. I, I would say it that way. Um, guys, when you, said that we were gonna do this topic and I started thinking about things I've done and projects I've done. And it's actually, I started remembering one of the rooms that we did together. And again, I've got images that we'll share. Um, it was when we did the, um, ombudsman,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

showcase house. Again, probably close to 10 years ago, if you recall, but we took the room and painted everything one color

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Was it the,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

that the, the Dark Navy.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

blue?

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

It was,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

yeah.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Oh yeah, yeah.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

yeah. Yeah. I know y'all

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

room. Yeah.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I thought, Lord, them people. I didn't know if they knew what was gonna happen.'cause it was this beautiful wood paneling room and then you said, you were like, I'm

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

We're gonna paint it all.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

well, I'll, I'll, uh. Well, it what, okay, first, I would take issue with beautiful paneled room, uh, because it.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

remember.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Well,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I just

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

it was,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

detail,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

was a paneled, it was a, a connector together room, and they actually used it as a billiard room. They had a pool table in there, which was awful, and a, a UK light fixture. And it was, and it was beautifully paneled. Yeah, it was beautifully paneled. Room. But the problem was that they used subpar wood and the grainy and the colors and the textures and all that just was subpar. So you saw too many textures. And it also was then stained this horrific orangey red cherry color, right?

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Yeah.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

And all I did is walk in and see, instead of seeing beautiful paneling, I just walked in and saw 1983 cheap builder. Right. And so the two directors of this project who were owners of the house also at the, at the time, uh, you know, I had to say, Hey. White man who's not homosexual.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

man.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

I want straight man. There you go. I, I want to paint you wood. I wanna mess with you wood. Okay, brother. And, uh, it, it did not go well. I don't know if, I don't think you guys were there. I think I was pitching the idea and

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Yeah.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

like, yeah, no, you can't do that. And I was like, yeah, we we're gonna paint it. And not only we're gonna paint it, we're gonna paint it dark Navy blue. Oh yeah. You're not gonna paint it. What? No, we're gonna paint it really dark. Navy blue. No, you can't do that. Yeah. You can keep saying no, but we're gonna do it. And he's like, well, do you wanna keep the pool table in here? Yeah, no, you need to get rid of that pool table. You can't work around it. No. You know, it's a lot of work to get rid of that. And I was like, yeah. Again, remember we're gonna paint the paneling and I need rid of the pool table and well, do you wanna keep the uk Uh, lot that's made out of stain glass.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Uh,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

No, you need to take that down too. Oh, that's expensive. Somebody like that. It's like, well, I don't, I don't. So we're gonna paint the room. Navy, we're gonna get rid of the pool table and the lot. Oh, and so one of the old boys went home and told the wife what I had pitched, and the next day he is like, yeah, Amber says she likes it, so I guess we're doing do it. And I said, thank you.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Well, and so for people who are not local to us, so it's basically like a decorator showcase house. So designers come in, finish a room, and then people buy tickets to to see it, and then. the money benefits, a charity here or an organization that takes care, helps, uh, navigate, uh, elder care in, nursing homes and stuff like that, representing them. So it was, it was a great,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

cause and it

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

mm-hmm.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

uh, room. So we weren't like dealing with

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Homeowner.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

going to live in the house because the house was gonna be used differently in for this subdivision. I think it was gonna be like a community. I don't really know what that

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Yeah.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Yeah. It's basically gonna be their, uh, clubhouse, so to speak.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

That's it. Yeah. So

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Yeah.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

don't think that we ever looking at homeowner who's gonna live there and be like, nah, we're gonna do what

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Yeah,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

gonna

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

yeah,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Symphony lamp out on the front

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

yeah. No, this one, you're right. I need to, it sounded like I was coming across crass, but uh, this one, when you do something like that in its first showcase, uh, your job is to. Push the envelope a little bit. Put things out there that are

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Make

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

little more designed.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Make people talk.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

So.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

So with that said, I have images. Again, we'll share those so that you don't think we're crazy because it's ultimately a classic room and we, um. Now high praise for it. And that's not the end result. But the, that, it was well received. So we didn't do anything too crazy, I don't think it was very, very, very well received. the sweet story was on this one, guys that, Megan, who has now since passed, you know, she did a beautiful room

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

beautiful.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Beautiful room, right? Beautiful room, and, the last day of the, showcase. She, and her husband were there and, and my wife and and I were there and she came up and she was somewhat timid and she said, I hate to ask this, but my, husband just loves the paint color you guys did. Would you, I. Mind to share that with me'cause he wants to do his office that way. Well, for me, that's incredible compliment, right? Because I really did love her aesthetic and what she did and the room that she created that this house was stunning. And I said, well, of course. And so for listening audience, it is Naval, uh, by Sherwin Williams. Again, we'll post that Naval by Sher Williams. And this is the most beautiful classic Navy color, right? There's other good ones, but yeah.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Not N-A-V-E-L because they have both.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

There you go. Yeah. And we'll, then we'll post it. Um, but the funny part is I said I would happily share it, but then I said, so I'm gonna pivot to you and say, I too have been hesitant, but I wanna know what your paint color is because I wanna use it for a client because I found it to be the most beautiful color that, I've seen in quite a long time. So one of those things that it goes back to, saying that, working together with talented people is such a pleasure. And that was a wonderful project that we worked together on many, many, many local designers. That was a fun project. Uh, now the behind the scenes drama was a, a different story, but

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Yeah.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

with the designers, uh, was wonderful. They, they all stepped up. So anyway, Naval.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

So if you're thinking of color drenching, we, you know, we've mentioned some rooms that are, you know, easy to do. A pals room, for example. It's really easy to do it'cause it's like a little short theater, right? Like you, like I always do. That's what I call, you get in, you get out, and you don't have to be too terrified if you do something really dramatic. Um, the color I don't think is. I mean, picking the right color can be, an issue, uh, if you pick an ugly color. Um, but I think as long as you pick something that speaks through to your heart, um, that you will, um, love it. And one of the Dwayne, didn't you do a basement that was all black Yeah.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Yeah,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Yeah. And I,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

yeah. Well, the, the, the mom of my client said it looked like the Devil's Cave, uh, but the client, and I loved it though.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Well, you know, we had, lunch with our friend Sean yesterday, and in his previous home, in their little sing room, we colored, drenched it and we did it in Black Fox and, or was it iron? Iron ore? Maybe we did iron ore. Both those Sherman Williams colors, but they're really dark gray, black, uh, and I mean, it was moody, but, oh god, it was good. So, uh, you

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Here. Here, what he just said. Basically black. But black is not black. Right? And there's all, there's not all equal. So there's a color called iron ore. Look it up. Sherman Williams, uh, black Fox is a, a brown black, right? And then I did a theater room, uh, in a basement, and, uh, it was called porpoise, uh,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Williams. And it is. Charcoal, but a little green in her tone. Again, really love that color. So those three beautiful charcoal kind of colors to investigate if that's something that you, um, find interesting for you. But yeah, absolutely beautiful colors.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

And if you know always. Sampling the colors is a really super important thing to do. But what I would recommend for people, and we did this with my in-laws, they were looking at painting their living room and they were just like, well, I just don't wanna paint all these big swatches around. And I said, well, you don't have to paint the big swatches. You can go to Samplize, which this is not a, an ad for sample, but, um, you can go to samplize.com, which is S-A-M-P-L-I-Z-E-I believe.com. And they have. Paint stickers. I don't remember how big they are, but they're probably 12 by

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

yeah, they're pretty large, I think. Yeah.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

They have Benjamin Moore colors, they have Sherwin William colors, they have Pharaoh and ball, and they have PPG paint. And so you can order any paint color that they have and you can order, and basically these repositionable big square stickers. And so you can literally put it in the corner of the room on all three, like the two corner walls and the ceiling. So you can kind of see it, you can put it on your tra like you can. Put it down so you can see how it's gonna feel in a little bit bigger space. Plus different walls, cast different shadows and all those kinds of things. But I think that's really, um,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

like contact paper, uh, paint sticker,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

destroy your wall.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Yeah,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

you can

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Yeah. It, it comes off

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

back and

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

post. Oh, here's a way. It's a big giant paint post-it note.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Exactly. Yeah.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

That's, yeah.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Yeah. So

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Yeah.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

a great way for,'cause you know, look, we all understand seeing little bit, little bitty paint colors ain't gonna do nobody no good. You gotta see it on a bigger surface, right? You gotta make it bigger.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Well, here's the crazy part. They're, they're six,$7 each one of them, right? Something like that.$8, I dunno, in that range. But the thing is, you gonna sit on your couch and you're gonna order it. You don't have to go to the paint store. You don't have to get, you don't have to wait on the ru paint guy to get you the paint samples done. And like, you just want two samples. You don't wanna buy$50,000 a gallon of paint, you know, dealing with those fools there, right? So you get your paint samples and then you couch at 11 o'clock at night. We all been there, right?

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I, you know what? Honestly, I have not. All of the people that I've dealt with at our local little paints, they are all so pleasant. That's why I'm like, I,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Well, maybe it's me, what I putting out there? There you go.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

We'll just say,

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I just send my people.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

okay. Well, I don't have people's,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

will deal with it, but like locally for me, across from our home, our, our little Sherwin Williams store over there, like, everybody's been so kind to me, so that's why I'm

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

well, well, I'll just pivot. It's all me, Jeremy. Thank you. Uh, so I'll choose to sit on my couches. Oh. Kids, if you don't know, if you don't know what kind of week we've had, I have caused more problems. I have stirred up more crap. I have called more issues for these two. I have. I'm telling you, it's been a week and we ain't done yet. Um, so there you go. It's all me too.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Tuesday of this. By Tuesday of this week, I had told you that I was gonna kill you more times than I've probably told you in the entire 25 years I've known you, or

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Yeah.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

so we,

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

It's

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

we're gonna.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

cat moon is coming this Saturday.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

She's like, cat moon,

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Yes. Have you not seen that?

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

No,

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

It's a smiley face, cat moon coming.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Oh, I

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

planets are gonna be above the moon. It's gonna be a little smiley face with eyeballs.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Oh yeah, I did see

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

I have no clue, but that explains. I don't like catsa.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

beckon.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Some crazy cat ladies. Um, well. The thing that, sticks out to me for this week, was there was a conversation in, this is not making a lot of people and their struggles with their, uh, mental health issues. It really isn't. But I think America is on the edge. And I'm saying that I might be working with some people that might need some meds in their world that kind of calm'em down a little bit and they're admitting to me in a meeting, well, I might take some medicines to kind of level me out a little bit.'cause I'm jittery, right? I'm not naming names. The other two. And when I said this I said, well, I don't take anything. Then I stopped and I paused and thought, am I the common denominator because of everybody in my life has to take drugs to level out and I don't. Am I the problem? So I'm asking myself.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I mean,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

They ain't saying no, folks. They ain't saying no. There you go. Anyway.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

medication

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I mean,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

now.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

roots have tentacles is all I'm saying.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Anyway, that, that, that's, that's summation of this week my learning experience. So, We were talking about ordering the samples. You can literally sit on your couch, go to this website. I don't know what voodoo they do, but if you order at 11 o'clock that night, it's probably gonna sit on your doorstep at two o'clock the next day. I have never seen this. Literally, you order it and it's like within your hands, within like 10 hours or something. So you gonna get your samples very quickly. Yeah. The other positivity and

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

take two weeks to get it Sure. As shit.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Well, they like me better than them.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

That

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

you go.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

must be so, okay. So you can put that on all the surfaces. You can see how it's going to look. Um, and it'll give you an idea of how it's gonna feel. Now here's some pointers if you do color drenching and ways to try to make the room still. Interesting visually, aside from just being all the color, right? So I always suggest people make sure. You've got all three layers of lighting, right? So you've got your ambient task and accent, right? So those will help. And then when you put your furniture and things in, um, making sure that you use different kinds of, materials like whether it's velvet leather and all those kind of things like that adds a lot of textural interest to the space,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

probably kicker is sure you pick the

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

You right?

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

sheen.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Yeah,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

would think for your

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

definitely.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

if

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

If you.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

some popped walls, some walls that are not even where they bow, you do not wanna do a high gloss. People you don't wanna do. We all, I think we all three love a lacquered wall and ceiling. I mean, we

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

finish

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

that goes back to like what we talked about a couple of podcasts ago, but you have to have a level five finish rack on the wall. It's gotta be perfect. Everything's gotta be

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Glass.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

to put high sheen on, right. So if you don't have that situation, please, I would not suggest to do it.'cause you're just gonna look at every flaw. You know? That's when you would use like an eggshell or something that's not as shey. So it's not gonna show all the the hiccups, wouldn't you think?

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

100%.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Oh

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

generally, in most situations, I'm not going to do a room, I'm going do a, a satin or an eggshell anyway on most walls, you know. Uh, lacquered walls are, uh, for very special limited

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

It's

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

instances,

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Yeah.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

very specific, and also to get it done and get that done well is very expensive. So that is, that is not for everybody unless you can do it for yourself.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

And that's

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Uh

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

that paint could be inexpensive, right? Like if, if you're trying to go for that lacquered field, that's a whole other level of, effort and money and finished work, that somebody's gotta know what they're doing versus you just going in with the

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

For me, unless you're very, this is not A-D-D-I-Y kind of thing on lacquered walls.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Oh Lord,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Now anybody can, right. A lot of people can

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

No.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

pick up a paintbrush and if you're careful, you can paint your own room. I don't want to, I used to, but I'm too old, too fat. I ain't gonna do it anymore. But if you wanna paint your own room, you know, do a, a more flat finish and exhale or satin, and you probably can't screw it up too much once it's said and done.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I'm just interested in color. Would you, would you all probably end up doing more moody, strong color, or would you do more color? Like

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I would do moody because it, I think it shows better, especially when you have three different sheens in your room. mean, if you're in a, in a pastel, muted color. I think to get that to work, you're gonna have to go everything up a sheen from what you normally would

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Mm-hmm.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

like your trim, like let's say it's a pastel pink or a really light pink. Then your trim has to be high gloss, your walls do need some sort of semi gloss and then a satin on the ceiling because it's just not gonna read if you paint everything And just a regular gloss. It's just gonna look like powder went on the room because if you really want that definition,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

See, it's funny. Uh, okay, let's do two things. I think of color drenching. I generally, when I think of color drenching, I really do think for some reason it's more intense color. Right? Even though color drenching technically, it really can be light, right? But for color drenching, it just seems drenching is a war that seems strong and it seems more intense to me, so I feel like it's a darker color. With that said, I finished my basement a couple years ago and with limited light and all the tricks I did, I actually color drenched everything and I painted everything white. So technically that's color drenched, right?

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

sure, sure.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

But I don't see it that way so much. I just see it as uniform and I need it. I didn't wanna, uh, break it up. I didn't want too many colors. But technically I see that as technically color drenching when it's one color and there's different of it. I don't know if you agree with that one.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

that more as monochromatic. I don't see that as

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Okay. So, so then is color drenching then really more intense?

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I think it's.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I still think you can do it in like a cream or a tan or I think you could do it in that kind of way. It doesn't have to be like a dark blue green or it doesn't have to be a black. I think it's just a different way to do it. I mean, think about a kitchen, like my

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

My kitchen,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

walls. The, the, um, the walls, the

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

cabinet.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

the ceiling, uh, now except for the wet, the wet bar in, in our island, those are different things, but all the other surfaces are all painted the same color, and it's all white. So for me, that color drenching, those, like that whole thing. Um, me it is.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Okay, so, so the one I did, and it's clients of mine who built a little, uh, Southern Living Bungo, that looks like a little schoolhouse. I. Painted. So it, this house is like 1600 square feet. It looks like an old school house. You walk in the front door, you are literally in just one big room. There's not even a foyer, right? And you look to the back of the house, 24 feet long or whatever it is. Uh, and it's the kitchen. And so the, uh, Malin, the cabinet guy, when I had him paint the cabinetry. We have beadboard, we have walls, we have cabinetry. I literally did Rin, that whole. House in particular, I'm staying in this room and everything is painted. Um, just a light khaki color. And because when I opened the front door, I didn't wanna walk in and see white cabinets in khaki trim, and I just wanted it to be one color. And for some reason, I. I can understand a darker room, more intense room is color drenching,

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Mm-hmm.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

but when I was pitching the idea of all the trim walls, B board, ceilings, cabinetry, everything, one color, I had a nervous energy and I didn't see it as color drenching, right. But what I was saying is, I want all one color. And, she said to me, do you think this is the right answer? I'm like, I don't know. You know, the rot, and that's the confidence you want from a designer when you're having, you know, thousands of dollars worth of cabinets done and trim work and stuff. Do you think it should be all one color? I don't know.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

you're

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

I think it's rot. Maybe, right? I know and I couldn't. I was in my own head, and if I'd had this conversation, what we're hearing today, then a year ago, eight months ago, whenever I was doing this, if I would've heard it, I would've had more confidence because it really is color drenching. But in my head, suppose I always think as color drenching is more intense, but truthfully, it can be. Lighter shades and the end result is kids. The, the spaces that that, that we did together, uh, is beautiful and she loves it and I love it. And it is color drenched and it is neutral. It's just a light khaki color. It's, I think it's called favorite tan. I can't remember the color. Uh, but beautiful. And it is. Now I can say to you. Can we paint it a lighter color and it'd be all the same. And I wouldn't say, I don't know. I could say, yep, it's good.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

we've talked about everything. Except if you're do it, you gotta do the ceiling too.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Oh yeah.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

You got to, you gotta do it all.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

in our bedroom when we did, our primary, when we, I wanted to do a dark green color and you have no idea. The fight that I had to have to, not the fight, that's the wrong word. The Effort I had to put in to have my loving husband, trust me enough. and you know, we've talked on here before that our mates often will, question,

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Uh.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

um, things that we know that's right. We, you know, it's, I'm like, look, this is what people pay us to do. Like, trust us. Um, there was a lot of effort. There was a lot of

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Conversations,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

it, but we

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

but we were able to,

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

green. However, I

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I was not allowed to.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

trim or the ceiling.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

And, um, that's like, that's my one regret. Like, I wish that that could have been

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Well do it now.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Oh, I don't wanna put any more effort into that, but Room. It's a smile. It's done. Like, it's, I don't wanna, I'm gonna have to, no, I

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Wow.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

He just gave up.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

He just gave up.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

we heard from, from, um, our, our, our lovely contractor and my spouse last week. Uh, I was questioned on Monday for a client's house they were starting to do the tile for the primary bathroom. He called me, he's like, boo. You think you ordered the right tile? I went, huh? He goes, well, there's three different ones. I went, Uhhuh, he goes, I, I don't know that all these go together. I said, uh huh. goes, you just want me to shut up and put it in? I went, Uhhuh. He's like, okay. And then,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

I love it.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

know,

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

by yesterday all the guys were like, wow, this really looked good together. I'm like,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

And you went Uhhuh.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

It's called Visual Noise. We'll have another podcast about that later,

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Oh.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Yeah.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

anyway.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

able to see the end picture that you, we've talked about that on here. Like

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Okay.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

know. Having to, you know, what helped me the most, and this was the sad situation, was, uh, I, with our bed with the bedroom, and this is kind of example like what you're talking about, Stuart, like they don't see the end in end picture in their mind, right? So I kept saying over and over, this is what I wanted to do. This is what I wanted to do, this is what I wanted to do. And I

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I tried to find good representation.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

of it at the time and I couldn't, I couldn't find like something I could show him. then we got the Ballard's catalog and I'll be damned. You know, there it was. And I was like, see, honey, this is, this is what I'm talking about. He's like, how did you make them do that? I said, I

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I didn't

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

make them

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

do

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

That was what you had nothing to do with, this is just what

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

what I.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

about. He's like, how do you know? I was like,

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

It is like quail.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I don't know. Call me Ms. Clary. I don't know. Like I, this is what I wanna

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Because I'm a designer.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

you know? But yeah, but I do love my, I do love how dark the room is and it's moody. I wish the ceiling was done, but you know next house, whenever that is.

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

Hm. Okay.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Mm-hmm.

jeremy-guest949_1_04-24-2025_090549:

I can keep saying.

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

Then go ahead and get the champagne and ceiling painted,

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:

was

dwayne_1_04-24-2025_090547:

do sake

stuart-host173_1_04-24-2025_090549:
